The History of BAZ the Clown and Family

My clown has looked different over the years, but his name has always been BAZ.
During the later years I had both a Hobo and Auguste clown, that I used depending on what the situation called for.

My first clown.

In the later 70’s, I was asked if I could be a clown for a promotion at a local civic event. I knew nothing about how to be a clown, but went ahead and threw this together. Looking back, it wasn’t that bad, but not very good.

1983, Graduation Day from the Metro Clown Class.

Being low on funds, I went with Hobo clown because it was cheap to put together a costume. I’m holding my oldest daughter who was about 1 year old at the time.

I done graduated from Clown Class. I is now edumacated! I can be somebody!

A few years later, I decided to become an Auguste clown. Everything about the costume I made myself and that includes the hat and wig. The only items I didn’t make were the coat and shoes and those were made by my Mommy.

The nice thing about the shirt for my outfit, it can double as an old fashioned swimsuit.

I once entered a Sexy swimsuit contest in this outfit and full make-up, The guys at the auto show didn’t appreciate the joke.

Taken after a long day of rehearsing for a local awards show. Hadn’t even gotten to the show and I was all ready exhausted.

At one point I decided to develop my hobo character. I went with bib overalls, because no one was wearing them, so I thought they would look funny. A few months later they became popular with teens. I guess everybody wants to be like BAZ.

Eventually I dropped the vest and added a goldenrod tux with tails. This picture is a good shot of my hat with the “sprung” top.

There use to be this wonderful store called StarRealm. They sold Comic Books, Sci fi merchandise, game supplies and such. On their last day of business, they owners, Bill and Sandy Grush thought it would be great if a couple of clowns showed up. So they did!

Bill and I are haggling over the price of issue 7 of Kazar. Once Bill realized I "wanted the comic", he crossed out the price and hiked it up to $100. I’m trying to pay him a clown quarter.

In case you were wondering, I won and still have that comic.

I decided to try an Auguste clown, but keep my beard.

Probably one of the last pictures of BAZ the Clown, taken while Sew-Sew and I were teaching a Clowning Class. I haven’t clowned since late 2001. I guess I just got burned out. Maybe someday I’ll get back into clowning.

Terry’s first clown outfit. Sunny the Clown.

Later on Sunny became Sew Sew

Proof that Blondes have more fun!

Early picture of BAZ and Sunny, taken by the same photographer that did our wedding.

BAZ, Sew Sew and the Amazing Grrknack, the talking dog. A skit that we wrote that steals..err… borrows from Carson’s Amazing Karnack routine.

Now there is a cute couple

With both parents as clowns, you know the kids got into the act also. Here are Ruffles and Freckles. Taken in 1989

Here’s the whole family. Taken in the mid 90’s. This was the last time the girls clowned. It wasn't cool to be seen with Mom and Dad at that age, let alone be a clown.
