Date: Thu, 25 Dec 1997 01:59:31 -0500 (EST) From: Maria Subject: sample moka letter i have written a letter that anybody who would like to might copy to send to the TV station. i can only do it by e-mail as i don't have a fax machine. i believe that if you want a NY station/newspaper to publish this story, you need to stress to local angle. does anyone have an e-mail address where i could send my letter? maria in milwaukee ************************ ATTN: Larry Seary I am a member of an Internet email list called SamFans - we love the samoyed breed. It is a cyber community that is around 500 members strong with most members in the US. We have a good contingent of Canadian, British, and Australian samoyed fanciers and several from other spots in the world. this list has been in existence for over three years. We are a community that cares very much about each other and our dogs - as much as one can care about people and dogs over cyberspace. Since word has traveled quickly on SamFans, I am aware that as of December 24th you have chosen to pull your story on the search for Moka on WNBC TV Channel 4. Although there has been considerable coverage of this story in the Philadelphia Enquirer and some local TV stations in PA (in fact an NBC affiliate), there is also a NYC angle that is quite important. When the Jeep was stolen in scranton, there was a cellular phone call made to Brooklyn. We believe this dog may have been dumped in NYC. this is why it is so important to us on this internet list that we receive some NY coverage. If Moka would be found with the help of your TV coverage, it would make a wonderful human interest story for your audience especially so close to Christmas. As hokey as it may sound, the samoyed breed is popularly known as the dog with the Spirit of Christmas in its smile. It is a breed that is synonymous with winter and snow. Of course, we had hoped to have Moka home by Christmas, but we haven't had the break we've needed. to reiterate some of the facts of this story: on Monday, December 8th, around 2:00 p.m., the wife of one of our members, (Sal Lawrence at 717-343-2929 work or 717-842-0799 home) had her 96 Jeep stolen from a mall in Scranton, PA. That certainly is not newsworthy. But unbeknownst to the thieves, sleeping in the back in a crate was a dog. In the past few weeks, this entire list has mobilized to try and find Moka. I am now contacting your TV station in the hopes that there is an enterprising reporter who feels that there is a story in how we are have all come together to find this dog. the more people aware of a big, white, fluffy dog wandering around lost, the more likely someone will know where it needs to go. Moka is 7 year old Spayed Samoyed (long-haired, white, husky-type or sled-type dog who carries her tail over her back), about 50 lbs, AKC tattoo on her inside right thigh, carrying a $1,000 reward for her return. There was a call made on the cellular phone in the car to Brooklyn so we have had people mapping the possible route, sending faxes to humane societies, radio stations, TV stations, truck stops, police in PA, NJ and NY. Everybody is contacting somebody. We have people in the area actually driving various routes that the thieves might have taken had they driven to NY from Scranton. They are distributing flyers and putting them in gas stations and truck stops. We have been working non-stop. Samfans has set up three web sites in searching for Moka (http://www.tconl.com/~evadl/moka.htm and http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/1294/moka.htm). At these sites, which are updated daily, you can see what has been done and who has been contacted. There is also a photo available there. This is an effort undertaken by people spread not just across the US but the world as well. I truly believe it is a story that your audience would love and i think would write itself, especially with all the posts that have been generated. I do hope from the efforts I have listed you realize that this is NOT simply a lost dog story. we all hope you can please help. maria city, state telephone #'s Date: Thu, 25 Dec 1997 11:09:19 -0600 From: Debbie Subject: Re: WNBC (e-mail) Hi Susan and All: Re: WBNC channel 4 NY, NY TV Station Here is the e-mail address Scott sent his to.
