Tom Lucas - Washtub Bass & Vocals

Tom Lucas took his first bath in a wash tub, and some sort of paranormal bonding must have taken place, because he still has it with him -- he made a washtub base (also known as a gut bucket) out of it and now plays it for Peter, Paul & Morrie.

But then, he plays all kinds of strange things. For example, he owns the world's only Panjo. Built by Bill Peterson of Omaha, Nebraska, it is some kind of other-worldly cross between a bedpan and a banjo. More than that you do not want to know.

An insurance adjustor by trade, he owns one of the largest private collections of 50s and 60s folk music in captivity. Worse, he is familiar with the contents. Much of the group's current reportoire came from it.

Tom is the only member of the group to own more than one Bill Peterson custom-made musical instrument. Other than the Panjo, he owns a beautiful rosewood Peterson guitar, and his gut bucket stick is also a Peterson original, featuring nine different kinds of wood in the knob alone.

By the way...Tom is quick to point out that he plays a tenor gut bucket, since it has a short stick. He is far less quick to point out that he also sings tenor.

Now, back to where you were...
