Jessica:"I really liked it. There were alot of cranes. We had to get up at 4:30 in the morning and it was pretty cold out, but my cousin and I were wrapped up in blankets. We visited Cabela's, cookbooks by Morris Press, and the mall. "The cranes flew by in big groups and when they landed they were very weird looking. As long as you go with someone in the car it won't be boring. There is a really good restaurant there called 'Grandpa's Steakhouse.' I tried the snails and hated them. Alltogether it was a really good trip." |
Sarah:"I think Fundraising Cookbooks was fun to go to because you get to see all the cookbooks people make. What was funny is when Jessica and I were running up and down the bridge because it was so cold. What was unexpected was when the cranes came at six and we had to wake up when it was 4:30. What was strange was when Jessica put on her silver die* it turned out gray. "What was interesting was how the sandhill cranes landed. What was goofy is when the breakfast buffet chairs kept falling over when we got up. What was amazing was that Uncle Rick and Tante ate snails and when Uncle Rick parked in private property and two dogs came. What was disappointing was when we had to go because I was having so much fun." |
Lisa:"It was fun with Tante and Uncle Rick. It was fun seeing the cranes, they were really cool looking. It was funny when my sister Karen had the contest to get a dollar from Uncle Rick. It was amazing how much French toast she can eat when she's doing it for money. (She had to eat a ton of them.) What was unexpected is when we had to get up in the middle of the night to start driving there. It was interesting to see how big the cranes were and what they did. It was also amazing how fast the cranes can fly. It was disappointing when we had to go home because I was having so much fun. "Here's the story of what I remember us doing...We came over to your house and talked and watched t.v. for awhile. Then we went to sleep in the guest room. You woke us up sometime in the morning (maybe 1:00). All I know is that I was really tired. We packed some food and started going. I remember at some point on the trip we went to a park. We saw the cranes. We went to a mall and a restaurant. (The one where my sister ate all the French toast.) I also remember I had a really fun time and it would be fun to go see them again." |
Karen:"I thought the whole trip was fun and exciting. I thought the story of the French toast was funny. I remember we went to eat breakfast, and I was hungry, so I ordered a big stack of French toast and go so full I could not finish. Then Uncle Rick bet me a dollar that I could not eat them all and finally I did. After that I was so full I didn't think I could eat again. (But I did.) "The thing that was unexpected was how cold it was. Another thing that was unexpected was the long drive up there. "The thing that was strange was to find out how ugly those birds are. There fun to go and see, but there not that pretty. "What was interesting was the whole trip. It was interesting to go up and see the cranes. It was disappointing to go home after so much fun their. "What I thought was goofy is traveling up that far to see the cranes, but we were to cold to stay out of the car that long." |
Jenny:"I went with my Uncle Rick and Tante to see the Sandhill Cranes two years ago. I also went with my little brother, Chris. I had a lot of fun. The worst part of the trip would have to be the fact that we had to leave so darn early in the morning! (and that I had to sleep in my aunt and uncle's guest room with my brother). My lack of sleep didn't make much difference, however, because I slept during the whole car ride. "I remember that the weather was pretty dreary when we went. I also learned how cold it is in the middle of Nebraska at 5am when you're tired! "The cranes were very pretty. Besides seeing them, we also went to a museum in Kearney, and we went to the Capitol Building in Lincoln. "One memory that stands out in my mind was our stop at a restaurant for breakfast after we saw the cranes. Tante Karen wasn't at the table for some reason, so it was just Chris, Uncle Rick and I. Uncle Rick had made a paper football and he and Chris were flicking it back and forth. I knew that two boys and a paper football around dishes of food and glasses of water were a bad combination, and of course I was right. One of them knocked over a couple of glasses of water. I quickly left the table to find Tante and pretended I didn't know them. "The only advice I would give to people going to see the cranes is to make sure they bring binoculars and bundle up! Seeing the Sandhill Cranes was a very enjoyable experience, and I hope to see them again someday." |
